What is a Digital Navigator?

A digital navigator is a guide who helps people get connected to the internet, to devices, and to the skills that make both useful.

Think of a digital navigator as a friendly guide. They help you find cheap internet, borrow a laptop, or learn how to send an email.

And they stick with you until you've got it.

Access in Action

“Access in Action” is about the people who help others stay connected.

Digital Navigators work in libraries and Councils on Aging to help people use technology in ways that matter to them. They help with devices, internet access, and everyday digital skills like video calls, email, online forms, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is a free service.

Our digital navigation services are offered in partnership with the Alliance for Digital Equity, a western Massachusetts coalition promoting access to technology and digital skills training.

  • A digital navigator is someone who helps you learn how to use technology, such as laptops and smartphones. We can help with things like getting online, troubleshooting email problems, applying for jobs, and basic device skills. In addition, we can help with assistive technology such as connecting your hearing aids to your devices, or live transcription apps. No matter your skill level, we’re here to help.

The best way to receive 1-1 help is to attend drop-in hours, or if you prefer an appointment they are offered at several locations we partner with. Also, classes are offered on a monthly basis and those listings can be seen on our class calendar.

  • Our digital navigator collaborates with local libraries, senior centers, housing authorities, and community organizations. Most often, this is through drop-in hours or appointments on a weekly or monthly basis. Currently, we’re pretty occupied on this end, but have availability to offer classes and workshops to local community groups.
