Painted Dreams is a darkly comic and empathetic queering of soap opera history that explores the cliches and contradictions of gender. Lush in domestic ooze, Painted Dreams shuffles ‘masculine,’ ‘feminine,’ ‘real,’ ‘fake’ until they become indistinguishable and androgynous.
