Photographer Mark Guglielmo talks about “Shards of Illusion”, exhibiting at A.P.E. gallery from June 14th-30th.

Reality is subjective. Held together by fragments of memory stored in the depths of our unconscious, it can be shattered at the slightest provocation. This series of photomontages examines this fragility, an essential aspect of the human condition. I use a traditional film camera and 5″ x 7″ doubles from negatives as raw materials. My process is simple. Like a child on the floor with a jigsaw puzzle in hand, I cut, tape, layer, and shape images of the physical world to assemble my truth, to explore universal truth, and to create a way of seeing the unseen.
